Autodesk helps Morgan produce one of its most successful designs yet

Morgan Motor Company has become the latest automotive manufacturer to use Autodesk visualisation software to help accelerate time to market for a new car model. Autodesk software helped Morgan to go from sketches of its new 3-Wheeler model to first production in just five months and to meet early deadlines for marketing material before the car was actually produced.

Competitive swimmers this summer can streamline their performance thanks to Speedo's revolutionary Fastskin Racing System, which received full FINA (Fédération Internationale de Natation) approval last year. Les Hunt discovers how engineering simulation software from Ansys proved the Fastskin system design while reducing dependence on costly real-world testing.

Project challenges need for rare earth materials

Project challenges need for rare earth materials

A new collaborative research programme led by Cobham Technical Services will investigate next-generation electric motors for high-end, low-carbon emission vehicles that do not require rare earth metals in their construction. The project, ‘Rapid Design and Development of a Switched Reluctance Traction Motor’, will also involve partners Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) and engineering consultant Ricardo UK. Les Hunt reports.

Freshwater mountains: an adventure in 3D simulation

Freshwater mountains: an adventure in 3D simulation

Potable water is a rare resource in many countries. However, there are gigantic reservoirs of fresh water that have yet to be exploited: icebergs. Each year, tens of thousands of icebergs are adrift in the polar regions, all destined to melt into the oceans’ salt waters. Using 3D simulation, Dassault Systèmes’ teams are trying to determine if an iceberg can be towed from Newfoundland to the Canary Isles, how it will melt in transit, and what to expect if the iceberg breaks up.

Concept design with Creo 2.0

Concept design with Creo 2.0

Concept design is a fundamental part of the product development process. Whether using traditional methods or computerised techniques, it’s here that a product’s potential can be explored most fully. We explore how Creo 2.0 can fit into the process.
