Ceramic dielectric components enable next generation medical MRI systems

Morgan Technical Ceramics is working with the University Medical Centre (UMC) Utrect in The Netherlands to design an antenna for the next generation of ultra high field medical magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) systems. Scientists have designed a radio frequency (RF) coil array element for use in MRI systems with increased magnetic strength, which will enhance the quality of images from MRI body scans.

The National Facility for Ultra-Precision Surfaces in the OpTIC Glyndwr centre, St Asaph, North Wales, has emerged as one of the world's leading centres for the preparation of large surfaces of the order of one square metre to nanometre accuracy. An important aspect of this work has been the integration of both polishing and measurement within a single facility.

When it comes to new product development, the importance of the prototype simply cannot be underestimated. Gordon Styles, the Middlesbrough-born owner of Chinese firm, Star Prototype talks about the processes that put the product in the hands of the designers before it goes into production – including one that transforms polycarbonate surfaces in the blink of an eye.
