While many industries slowed
down during the pandemic, the medical and healthcare industries were under pressure to act quickly, racing to develop vaccines and respond to equipment shortages. In the future, the medical industry is likely to be presented with
more challenges and the sector must continue to innovate to provide patients with the care they need.

While speed is vital to bringing innovative medical devices to market quickly, manufacturers cannot compromise on accuracy and quality.
Regulatory bodies require manufacturers to provide accurate and traceable information from every step of the product’s cycle. This evidence proves that the medical device meets its intended purpose and is safe for patient use. Metrology is
fundamental in gathering evidence that the medical device meets safety and performance requirements for the patient, so manufacturers should prioritise developing an effective quality management system when producing new devices.
