Drives Alliance centre opens in Surrey

The ABB Drives Alliance scheme is expanding with a new member based in Woking, Surrey. IDS South is the latest addition to the network, providing drives expertise to customers in the Surrey, Berkshire and South A new branch of long-standing ABB Drives Alliance member, Inverter Drive Systems of Nottingham (IDS East Midlands), this latest addition to the ABB Drives Alliance network will deliver around-the-clock support for variable speed drive users, providing sales, service and repairs as well as energy appraisals, drive dimensioning, harmonics calculations and EMC assessments. It will also supply drives from Europe’s largest stock of off-the-shelf drives up to 400kW.

The new branch is led by southern sales manager John Bennett and technical manager Peter Livesey, who have some 40 years of engineering experience between them. In addition, Blaise Ford, managing director of IDS East Midlands is working closely with the southern team. “IDS East Midlands has grown rapidly to become one of the largest distributors for ABB,” says Mr Ford. “We’re now taking the same business model and applying it to IDS South.”

The added local presence provided by IDS South covers some of the most densely populated areas of England. “There are a lot of things happening in this part of the world,” says Mr Bennett. “IDS South aims to increase the market share that ABB already enjoys in this important region.” In addition to research and manufacturing organisations in the region, he hopes that local authorities and water companies will become major customers.

“The extra coverage provided by IDS South means that ABB can now serve customers in the south of England better than ever,” says Steve Hughes, ABB Drives Channel manager.
