Liquid lens camera technology comes to UK

Scorpion Vision brings PixeLINK's innovative industrial cameras featuring an electronic, focus-controllable liquid lens to UK for first time.

Last year, PixeLINK announced production of the world's first industrial cameras to include an electronic, focus-controllable liquid lens. Since its production, this pioneering industrial camera has become popular in the medical, inspection and security markets around the world. Now, industrial imaging distributors, Scorpion Vision, has been appointed exclusive distributor of the cameras in the UK.

Enabling auto focus with no moving parts, the cameras offer low power consumption, high shock resistance, and fast autofocus change in milliseconds. Along with this, utilising Varioptic electrowetting technology, the cameras can provide a fast, noiseless and controllable auto focus ranging from 10cm to infinity. The Varioptic lens also has a 16mm effective focal length which offers application-controlled and user programmable-controlled auto focus capabilities in board-level and enclosed PixeLINK cameras.

While the typical lifespan of a mechanical lens system is a few hundred thousand cycles, liquid lenses have been tested over 100 million cycles without performance degradation. Liquid lenses can also reconfigure themselves in tens of milliseconds, making them ideal for high vibration environments and applications that require fast focus changes.
