Synchronous servomotors for positioning, packaging and robotics

With the new MCM synchronous motors, Lenze is now extending its range of servo products to include motors with standard-level dynamic performance.

The MCM series is very compact, economic and characterised by its optimally smooth running. The new synchronous servomotors are therefore well-suited to general dynamic motion tasks such as positioning.

MCM motors are available with rated torque between 0.6 and 26Nm. They are matched by existing single and multi-axis servo inverters, also application based motion software.

Robotics, packaging machines and handling systems are typical areas of use for the MCM motors which are easy to control thanks to their favourable ratios of torque to inertia. With their optimised running characteristics, they ensure precise results and are particularly suitable for applications where smooth running is very important.

The motors are tailored for performance in simple positioning tasks requiring standard levels of dynamic performance. The complement the proven Lenze MCS servo motors with high dynamics for high-end applications.

The MCM series has seven motors in three frame sizes for powers between 0.2 and 2.5kW. Robust resolver feedback is standard with the alternative option of a multi-turn sin/cos absolute en-coder for high precision.

Output mounting is with B5 flange and shafts can be supplied with or without keyways. The housing of the new series has smooth, easy to clean surfaces with IP65 protection. This qualifies the compact motors for use in the food industry.

SpeedTec connectors are standard which allow rapid installation with only 1/8 turn of the plug. The connectors themselves can be rotated to best suit the mounting position and pre-assembled power and feedback cables are available.

Fully fledged robot functions for simple gantry systems and automatic stackers can be designed more easily with a new robotics module released in the Lenze FAST application software range. The pick & place module has everything engineers need for fast, productive and flexible handling systems. 

Easier robotics implementation
Gantry units are often driven on single axes by PLC-controlled positioning drives. A more elegant way of doing things - with gantry-robot kinematics and coordinating multiple axes, for example - has been dogged by complicated and time-consuming programming.

This is exactly where the new FAST technology module comes into its own, clustering the robotics together to create an easy-to-parameterise drive with a robotics core at its heart. This is just as easy to parameterise as a single positioning axis. 

Thanks to the open standards used, namely PLCo-pen parts 1/2/4 and the IEC 61131 programming environment, FAST can be used to integrate additional drive tasks. For example, upstream and downstream conveyor drives are easy to engineer with the same controller and inverter drives from the same i700 family.
