Motor controller includes protection functions and interlocks in one
device
As well as its wide range of predefined control functions (direct online
start, star-delta start, etc), ABB's new Universal Motor Controller, the
UMC22, offers all the usual motor protection functions plus interlocks in
one device covering line currents from 0.24 to 63A. The unit needs a
single command from a PLC to initiate a particular control function -
there's no need to programme these functions into the PLC. It is ABB
FieldbusPlug compatible, which allows quick connection to any major
fieldbus via a PLC with relevant bus coupler, regardless of the protocol.
The UMC22 has six digital inputs and three relay outputs, which can be
assigned to pre-defined control functions such as fault input, local
control, fault output, check-back and so on. The device can also be
programmed with a second current setting for fault management of
two-speed applications. Trip classes 5, 10, 20 and 30 are covered, as
well as phase loss protection and electronic shear pin.
