Meet gea: the world's first 'wellness' concept car

A partnership between Italdesign Giugiaro, Audi and Technogym has come up with the world’s first car with what they describe as 'wellness mode' - a sort of gym on wheels.

At the Geneva International Motor Show this week, Italdesign Giugiaro launched gea, describing it as the future of luxury class mobility. While only at the concept stage at present, gea is claimed to be the first car to offer 'wellness mode', a feature developed by Italdesign Giugiaro in collaboration with Audi and Technogym.

The idea is that, over long-distance trips, passengers are able to perform isometric exercises and thus avoid stiffness at the end of the journey. When the driver selects wellness mode, even the dashboard LED lights turn to amber, to suggest a warmer, more relaxing interior atmosphere.

Two aluminium handles are fitted into the rear sets. Once activated, the handles pop out of the compartment and can be used for upper body routines. For lower limbs, two flat boards have been fitted to the floor, also designed by Technogym. These can be raised and used for stepping exercises.

There is even a video tutorial of Technogym exercise programmes to guide the user.

And to complete this cosseting package, there's room between the seats for a small fridge and drawers containing aromatherapy materials!
