Power losses minimised with new high current PV connector

Solar power operators can benefit from higher yields thanks to the reduced power losses in the new MC4-EVO 2 connector from Multi-Contact. Its high voltage rating of up to 1,500Vdc also means that longer cable strings can be used when linking solar fields.

The connector has a high current carrying capacity of up to 69A, helped by a streamlined design that improves heat dissipation.

Suitable for cable cross-sections between 4mm2 and 10mm2 (12 to 8 AWG), the connector has a polyamide casing with improved impact resistance and enhanced sealing. Ammonia and salt spray resistance also enables operation in harsh environments.

The MC4-EVO 2 has received worldwide certification (IEC, UL, cTUVus, JET, CSA), with approval for voltages up to 1,500Vdc (IEC, TUV) and 1,000Vdc (UL). Environmental protection is provided to both IP65 and IP68, with a wide operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C.

Its outstanding electrical performance is due to the use of MULTILAM technology, a proprietary contact system from Multi-Contact that uses torsion spring contact elements to produce multiple contact points and ensure high reliability and low contact resistance.

The connectors can be assembled on site using MC4 crimping tools, or they can be supplied with cables pre-assembled.

The MC4-EVO2 is compatible with the rest of the company's MC4 range.
