Danfoss enters the micro league at last

Danfoss may be a late entrant to the micro drives sector, but its new VLT Micro Drive - based on the successful VLT AutomationDrive series – makes up for any lost ground. The normal route to this market is to provide a ‘cut-down’ version of a larger drive; Micro Drive, however, offers a high level of what Danfoss calls ‘Performance Density’ reflecting many of the functions available in larger VLT AutomationDrives.

Available in single- and three-phase versions, and covering the power range 0.18 to 7.5kW in three frame sizes, the Micro comes with ‘big drive’ features, including RS485 FC-bus and Modbus RTU communications, Smart Logic controller, ac and dc braking, and automatic motor adaptation algorithm.
Micro Drive has an efficiency of 98%, thanks to intelligent heat management and a novel heat sink design. The unit will also operate at ambient temperatures of 50oC, allowing true side-by-side mounting for maximum utilisation of panel space.
