Since its introduction in 1999, ABB's high-efficiency, continuous-duty motor series, the M3000, has given rise to very few warranty claims. As a result of this, and ABB's stated aim to capture information on premature motor failures for its continuous product improvement programme, the company has extended the warranty on these motors to three years. ABB says that with regular, correct maintenance, the M3000 will deliver up to 20 years reliable service. *ABB has also recently published a new 86-page guide to soft starters, providing advice on how to select the right one, and then how to adjust it correctly to suit the application. It can be downloaded free of charge as a 1.08Mbyte pdf from the ABB web site (www.abb.com/lowvoltage) and searching for the document reference 1SFC132002M0201, or by emailing paul.tyler@gb.abb.com to request a direct link.
