British company is on track with Korean auto component suppliers

Two major Korean automotive component suppliers are using HepcoMotion Driven Track Systems (DTS) to ensure they meet the required quality and production requirements for their customers Kia and Hyundai.

The DTS is a versatile track system, usually oval shaped, with a number of linked driven carriages that can be accurately positioned for product assembly operations. The track lengths are typically 3m to 6m with 20 plus carriages but longer systems of up to 10m are not uncommon.

An improvement in the component quality is as a result of better consistency with respect to the positioning of the carriages. Conventional conveyor type systems often lack the positional accuracy and rigidity required to accommodate assembly forces. As a result, DTS equipped assembly systems tend to involve less in the way of rejects, thanks to this level of accuracy.

The HepcoMotion DTS system is no stranger to Korean manufacturers; it has traditionally been used in the country for the assembly of electronic parts - mostly for the mobile phone manufacturers - and this development into the automotive industry is likely to impact strongly on the company's sales in Korea.

HepcoMotion has had a presence in Korea for ten years and Chris Rees, the company's sales director, believes being involved with local tier-one automotive component suppliers will have a positive impact on his company's expansion plans in this important Asian industrial sector.

Word of mouth is a big factor in Korea and HepcoMotion hopes it won’t be too long before other companies within the automotive supply chain hear of this latest successful application and want to incorporate DTS into their own production lines.

New website
Meanwhile, the company has launched a new website, which makes it easier for engineers to incorporate CAD models of HepcoMotion linear motion products into their designs. Developed with the world-leading 3D part management and hosting specialist, CADENAS, the site makes the data available in the native formats of all major 3D and 2D CAD systems.

A new, easy-to-use interface guides users to the best product for the application. Many part models can be configured prior to download. For example, the length of the linear slide and number and position of carriages can be set rather than the customer having to edit models on his or her own system.

The HepcoMotion CAD data is available through the industrial portal, as well as via CADENAS PARTsolutions software which provides additional features and data security for its users. HepcoMotion managing director, Peter Fanshawe, takes up the story:

“Specifiers of HepcoMotion products will benefit greatly from this change as it makes importing CAD data quick, easy and reliable. CAD generated by CADENAS is one of the world’s most trusted sources of this type of data and we are also committed to developing the site as part of our continuous improvement programme.”

The new HepcoMotion website went live last month, and will operate alongside the company’s existing CAD model distribution site, for a transitional period.
