Heat treatment for large construction equipment components

Heat Treatment specialist Flame Hardeners has observed a recent increase in the requirement for hardened parts in the construction and quarry equipment industries.

Typical examples are drive sprockets and idler rollers for caterpillar type tracks, toggles and toggle plates for stone crushing machinery.

“The current economic climate is driving manufacturers to seek new ways of offering added value to equipment for the benefit of their customers, and increased wear life is a key means of doing that,”explains Flame Hardeners’ managing director, Roger Haw.

“Presently there also appears to be a requirement for increased depth of hardening [up to 18mm],” he adds, “and, with our many years of experience in hardening such parts, we have developed techniques to satisfy this demand for a range of customers.”

The capacity currently available from Flame Hardeners for these types of component is up to 3m diameter for circular parts and 3m long for linear parts. The maximum capacity for weight is 20 tonnes.
