OKW has extended its 'Soft Case' enclosure series with the new sizes S and L. The company has also added two new standard colours, infra-red PMMA material and an increased selection of intermediate rings. These hand-held enclosures have been designed to enhance the visual impact and tactile quality of small electronic devices. Typical applications include measurement systems, wireless RF or infra-red remote control devices, medical and laboratory equipment, and peripherals and interfaces.
They can be used for wide format LCDs and Keypads. The top part has a wide recessed area for locating the display or membrane keypad, and a raised panel on the long edge of the base part is provided for USB, power or serial connectors and controls.
The enclosures are moulded in off-white or lava grey ABS or black infra-red PMMA (UL 94 HB). The external dimensions are 82 x 51 x 14 mm (S), 105 mm x 65 mm x 19 mm (M) and 117 x 73 x 24 mm (L). Three types of battery compartment are offered which will accept 2x1.5V AAA, 2x1.5V AA or 1x9V cells.
Screw pillars are provided in the top and base parts for fitting the PCBs, and the cases are assembled by four self-tapping screws. Accessories include a range of intermediate ring mouldings which increases the internal height by 3 mm. These are offered in the three case colours, or chrome plated, or in soft TPE material which provides IP 54 protection. The TPE material also offers bump protection.
OKW can supply Soft Cases with additional holes for the push-buttons, connectors and displays etc., plus silk-screen printed legends and logos, and EMC shielding. Standard prices start at £5.
