Natural rubber has one small disadvantage in that, when contaminated with hydrocarbons, it begins to break down.
A simple and cost effective method of preventing contamination is to wrap the mount in a thick clear polythene bag before bolting the mounting into position. Silicone sealant can be used to make the seal even more effective. The user can still see the mounting to monitor it for wear.
