Vitronic introduces new volume measuring system

New from Vitronic is VolumeChd, the 3D volume measurement system that precisely measures rectangular or irregularly shaped packages and reliably detects defects on boxes.

The system allows logistics firms to automate invoicing, optimise space in delivery vehicles and utilise fleets efficiently, as well as avoid warehouse technology malfunctions.

Mounted above powered conveyors and sorters travelling at speeds of up to 3m/s to maintain high throughput rates, VolumeCh uses laser and camera technology to measure items up to 1,000 x 1,000 x 2,500mm.

Unlike other systems, it can determine the volume of small, flat or dark objects extremely accurately.

In addition to volume measurement, VolumeChd also detects defects on boxes, such as bulges and dents, on five object sides.

This prevents malfunctioning of automated warehouse technology and reductions in throughput when storing boxes in automated high-bay warehouses, for example.

The system can be used standalone or as an integrated part of VIPAC Auto-ID systems. As there are no moving parts, it is entirely maintenance free.
