Neutral Fieldbus Interface Features Intelligent Plug

'Neutral' fieldbus interface features intelligent plug According to ABB, its new FieldBus Plug (FBP) concept brings simplicity and flexibility to fieldbus applications by allowing devices to be quickly connected to any bus. Instead of having to provide multiple variants to suit a large number of industrial fieldbuses, ABB is now able to offer control equipment such as its new FBP motor controllers and starters in one standard version, with a neutral fieldbus-independent interface. All the installer has to do is attach the appropriate ready-made bus-specific FBP connection cable to suit their particular fieldbus. The FieldBus Plug establishes the connection of the individual switching and automation devices to the process controller. A fieldbus-neutral plug is fitted at one end of the cable and a plug with the fieldbus-dependent interface is located at the other end. Electronic intelligence is built into the plug to convert the neutral device data into a language that the process fieldbus is able to understand.ABB can offer plugs to suit all major fieldbuses, including Profibus DP, DeviceNet, AS-i, and so on. Being an open system, FBP can embrace any PLC system, and as ready-made plug-in connectors are used to attach the device to the fieldbus and power supply, there is no need to cut, isolate and prepare cables. The first FBP-compatible products to be launched include ABB's MSD11 motor starter direct, MSR22 motor starter reverse, MF121 motor fieldbus interface and UMC22 universal motor controller.
