New sensor innovations from SICK

SICK has introduced the MPS and MPA magnetic analogue output position sensors for pneumatic and hydraulic cylinders plus a novel photoelectric sensor that is able to detect individual packs on a conveyor without a gap between them.

The sensors provide a continuous analogue output signal for precision non-contact detection at all stroke positions with minimal blind zones. Simple to commission, thanks to the sensors’ intelligent teach-in function, they are designed for easy and quick mounting on T-slot housings with a range of bracket options for standard cylinder types.

Some 25 sizes are available in the MPS series, from 107mm to 1,007mm. Linearity is 0.5mm at 1.15m/s; accuracy is 0.3 percent and reproducibility is 0.06 percent.  The MPA is ruggedly built with an IP67-rated aluminium enclosure, for long life and reliability.

The MPS range comes in eight sizes from 32mm to 256mm to meet most short stroke applications. Its precision resolution (0.05mm), repeatability (0.1mm) and linearity (0.3mm) are ensured by the adjustable zero point and final point at set up.  Additionally, the rapid 1m/s sampling rate is ideal for fast-operating machinery.

Both the MPS and the MPA are equipped with touch-button on-board teach-in and set up, featuring LEDs for rapid commissioning, including the stroke start and end points.

SICK has also introduced DeltaPac, a photoelectric sensor that is able to detect individual packs on a conveyor without a gap between them, opening up new possibilities for the design of packaging machines.

Pack buffering and separation mechanisms are no longer needed. The product flow is stabilised because collisions due to falling packages are reduced.

DeltaPac sensors can detect folded edges, rounded and faceted corner packages.  The advanced background suppression technology, developed by SICK for many different sensors, ensures that glare, reflections, bright colours, changes in contrast and other potential distractions are ignored.

Sick DeltaPac sensors are pre-configured for fast and simple ‘plug and play’ installation, and fault-free operation.
