The protection of industrial systems against sudden power failure or supply voltage transients was revolutionised last year when Rockwell Automation launched the 1609-U — the only uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) specifically designed for industrial applications. Building on this success, Rockwell Automation has now unveiled the latest enhancement to its range.
The new Allen-Bradley 1609-P UPS line offers a range of high-density, double conversion online UPS in the 3-10kVA power range. Ideal for industrial and data communications applications in industrial environments, the 1609-P complements the existing DIN rail -mounted Allen-Bradley 1609-U UPS and is designed to provide the highest level of power integrity protection to critical devices in the control scheme.
Uninterrupted power is essential for any automated application. Sensitive electronic devices operating on the manufacturing floor, such as SCADA systems, PLCs, robotics and Ethernet switches, all rely on stable AC power.
The 1609 series units are designed to be assembled in a tower configuration alongside the control equipment they protect, providing back-up power in the event of dips in the supply voltage or momentary losses of power. In the event of a complete power failure, the UPS will enable the orderly shut down of industrial PCs, PLCs, or data logging HMIs, meaning a fast system recovery once power is restored. The Allen-Bradley 1609-P series offers input power factor correction, and tight voltage and frequency regulation. The automatic internal bypass minimises downtime by automatically diverting power to utility power in the event of an UPS failure or overload, and an intelligent battery management system maximises battery lifespan and performance.
Each model is available in a number of different input and output voltage combinations, with all models offering selectable output voltages and a choice of receptacle or hard-wired configurations. The 1609-P offers optimal performance in an industrial environment, providing power conditioning with a pure sine wave output in addition to zero transfer time to battery.
The 5, 8 and 10kVA models also now come with a Network Management and Environmental Monitoring Card as standard. The Network Management Card combines sophisticated environmental monitoring capability with the ability to assign the UPS with a unique IP address, enabling it to be monitored and controlled via a standard web browser. Settings such as the low transfer voltage setting, event and data logs, fault notification and temperature alarm parameters can all be configured remotely. In addition, users can view real-time data using RSView software provided by Rockwell Automation. The Network Management card also comes with an environmental temperature probe and features fully customisable I/O contacts and relays for additional versatility.
Flexibility of the Allen-Bradley 1609-P is further increased by the addition of a complete line of accessories, including rack-mounting kits, external battery packs for extended run times, replacement battery cartridges and a 120V step-down control transformer. Designed with the harsher industrial environment in mind, the superb features, versatility and steadfast power conditioning performance of the 1609-P is the first choice for users looking for real peace of mind in industrial applications.
