Eaton brings consumer technology to industrial automation

The XP500 series of industrial touch-panel PCs joins Eaton's expanding portfolio of high-end HMIs.

The new devices bring the latest operating systems and practices from consumer technology into the field of automation to meet the increasing need of machine and system builders for high-precision and cost-efficient HMIs with capacitive multi-touch technology.

The HMI panels run on Windows 7, are available with widescreen displays of 10.1in, 15.6in or 21.5in and are mounted in switch cabinets or operator consoles making them suitable for standard machine building applications.

The XP500’s AMD 1.65 GHz Dual Core CPUs with integrated Radeon graphics card ensure a high processing capacity as well as outstanding graphics. The slim, fan-free design offers a large-area display which provides a modern appearance and reduces space requirements.

The non-reflective safety glass is easy to maintain with a split-free and edge-free front that allows thorough cleaning. The aluminium housing is robust with the front offering protection to IP65/Nema 4X.

The XP5000 comes with two Ethernet and USB interfaces as well as an RS232 and RS485 interface. As well as the internal memories, a CFast removable memory card can also be used to store programs and data.

Meanwhile, Eaton is now offering its PowerXL variable speed drives (VSDs) rated up to 7.5kW with IP66 protection. The robust devices can be surface mounted directly next to the motor or at the machine thus ensuring versatile use and simple retrofitting even in harsh industrial environments.
