Non-contact rotary position sensing

The SV21 series of rotary position sensors from Murata represents a breakthrough in the price/performance barrier for these increasingly popular ‘non-contact’ devices. To date, they have been significantly more expensive than traditional contact types, but with the SV21 series, Murata has succeeded in delivering a low cost non-contact sensor without compromising on performance or reliability.

Murata’s SV21 series offers wide rotational angle effective up to 200o, considerably greater than traditional devices. A key differentiating factor is the incorporation of a programmable, Hall-effect IC, which can be used to change the output characteristic of the sensor according to a number of parameters, namely: slant, offset, upper limit and lower limit.

Linearity tolerance is 2% nominal. The sensor has temperature compensation built-in and the temperature coefficient range is –25 oC to +85oC. Overall dimensions are 16mm x 23mm x 32.4mm. Durability is assured by Murata to 10million rotational cycle operations.

The SV21 is ideal for use in a wide range of industrial and consumer applications, including feedback sensor in industrial control units, position sensor in measuring instruments, position sensor for high quality, high performance joysticks, and other high-reliability, long-life position sensing applications.

The device is supplied with a plug in connector, for easy assembly with no soldering required.
