Adhesives guide for product designers

To assist design engineers in the selection of the most appropriate adhesive for bonding plastic and elastomer applications, Henkel – makers of Loctite and Teroson brand products – has produced an indispensable guide to the various technologies that are available. Incorporated into the handy brochure is an easy to read chart that cross references substrates with various adhesive types to show their compatibility. The chart also reveals the best surface preparation products for each substrate. Additional graphs explain the times for fixture and full cure, operating temperatures, strength, gap-filling properties and flexibility.

Colin Chapman, Marketing Manager at Henkel, states, ‘Today’s designers have an exciting variety of different polymer formulations, offering choices unheard of only a few years ago. The right adhesive technology, carefully selected to match the individual characteristics of the substrates, can mean better reliability than many other joining methods.’

The Henkel portfolio of products suitable for bonding plastics and elastomers includes cyanoacrylates, epoxies, acrylic adhesives, two part polyurethanes, contact adhesives, MS-Polymers, silicones and flexible polyurethane adhesives.

The guide can be obtained from Henkel Loctite Adhesives Limited, Technologies House, Wood Lane End, Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, HP2 4RQ. Telephone : +44 (0) 1442 278000 or Email: technicalservice.loctite@uk.henkel.com
