Compact Gigabit PoE switch with 48V power boost

A full Gigabit Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) switch is now available from Korenix UK. The switch provides embedded 48V dc boosting, making it suitable for onboard vehicle IP surveillance, transportation and industrial automation applications.

The JetNet 3906G-w is a compact, robust, industrial-grade, 6-port PoE switch that is suitable for Mega Pixel IP camera surveillance applications in harsh industrial environments and transportation. The switch also offers a very wide ambient operating temperature range of -40 deg C to +75 deg C, making it suitable for a diverse range of installations.

With its 12-36V dc PoE boost, the switch enables the use of PoE and higher rate PoE, as well as 48Vdc. The embedded DC booster accepts dc power at 12V or 24V and then boosts this voltage up to 48V, while still providing PoE capability.

As standard PoE installations typically require a separate 48Vdc inverter, the JetNet 3906G-w can be supplied as a single-box solution, saving the customer valuable installation space, while reducing associated cabling and wiring costs.

The JetNet 3906G-w conforms to IEEE Power-over-Ethernet standards, IEEE 802.3af/IEEE 802.3at. The switch is a ready-to-fit unit that requires no configuration. Six ports are provided – one of these being an SFP fibre optic port for 100Mbps or 1000Mbps fibre optic connections for long distance transmission. Four Gigabit RJ-45 PoE ports are provided (30W per port, 120W in total), as well as one Gigabit RJ-45 port.

The system also supports 9KB Jumbo frames (large frame forwarding capability) and so is suitable for Mega Pixel IP surveillance across long distances (up to 120km).
