New epicyclic series has superior power-to-weight ratio
Brevini is claiming a 60% improvement in power-to-weight ratio for its
new S-Series epicyclic range, compared with more traditional gearbox
designs. The extra torque handling is possible thanks to the gear train
having four planetary units instead of the usual three. In addition, the
S-Series configuration increases the contact area between the planetary
gears and sun wheel, increasing both gearbox rigidity and accuracy.
S-Series gearboxes are available in eight sizes with up to four reduction
stages, and offer an output torque of up to 370,000Nm.
