Compact speed monitor with adjustable parameters and ATEX approval

The new M18 compact speed monitor from sensor market leader ifm electronic is a µprocessor-controlled evaluation system for monitoring rotating or linear movements. The unit can be used according to group II, category 3D, zone 22 (non-conductive dusts). The compact speed monitor incorporates the sensor and the speed monitoring in one housing. On the one hand the small, compact M18 housing allows mounting in small machines with only little space for sensors. On the other hand it is perfectly suited for use with a plc.
This ifm unit is the first allowing the user to set the parameters, switch point, start-up delay and output function. When the Teach button is pressed, the current speed is measured, the switch point is calculated and stored. In contrast to comparable speed monitors the start-up delay can be set individually. It is adjustable in the range of 0...15 s in steps of 1 s, thus avoiding any error message during the start-up of the drive. The output function can be selected to be normally closed or normally open. The standard speed monitor is a 3-wire unit with a nominal voltage range of 10…36 V DC. It can be used for operating temperatures of -20…60°C. The maximum damping frequency is 18,000 pulses/min, the setting range is 3...6000 pulses/min. The housing made of metal and plastic guarantees protection rating IP 67 and protection class II. ifm supplies one of the widest ranges of sensors for position and process control, complemented by a huge selection of connection possibilities, from connecting cable to AS-interface systems. ifm is committed to working closely with its customers to develop products which precisely match their needs, and the company provides expert, readily accessible technical support to help users maximise the benefits they gain from ifm products.
