New snap-in grommets are easy to install and protect against harsh environments

Anixter Components, a leading plastics and cable accessories supplier, has launched a new range of snap-in grommets used to grip and seal cables into enclosures, installation cabinets or other thin plates and sheets. The multi-operational VET protection grommets are easy to install and save OEMs valuable manufacturing time. Unlike conventional rubber grommets, they feature a unique rear lip that provides superior protection from the environment. The grommets have a quick and easy three-step installation process without the need for tools; pierce the front diaphragm, push grommet into panel, insert cable and pull back to form the seal. The rear lip locks the cable into place and tightness is maintained even if the cable moves laterally – a key advantage over conventional diaphragm rubber grommets. There is minimum risk of leakage and the VET grommets protect the inside of the panel from the ingress of dust and water to an IP67 rating. Manufactured from thermoplastic elastomer (TPE), the grommets are available to fit panel holes from 13mm to 48mm in diameter. They can withstand temperatures from –40º to 100ºC and are flame retardant, classified to UL94V-0. “The grommets can also be used as a simple plug as they have a sealed diaphragm,” says Andrew Fletcher, Technical Director, Anixter Components. “We welcome this new addition to our extensive range of liquid tight fittings which includes the popular Multigate grommet plate.”
