HARTING has become the first company to start full production of an AdvancedMC connector for MicroTCA backplanes. The MicroTCA system specifies an architecture whereby PICMG (PCI Industrial Computer Manufacturers Group) AMC.0 modules can be plugged directly into a backplane. The HARTING AdvancedMC connector has undergone a stringent evaluation process, and its footprint has been praised by backplane design engineers as particularly easy to route without the need to use blind or buried vias.
HARTING MicroTCA connectors offer good routing capabilities with wide routing channels. The differential pins are well isolated by the distance between signal and ground pins, resulting in low crosstalk and excellent high-speed performance. PICMG members have elected to use HARTING’s MicroTCA connector footprint as the new MicroTCA standard connector for press-fit termination technology.
The HARTING AdvancedMC connector for MicroTCA achieves data transmission rates of 12.5 Gbit/s. The press-fit assembly process keeps costs to a minimum thanks to the use of standard flat rock dies.
In a MicroTCA system, AdvancedMC modules are plugged directly into a backplane and not into a carrier board. The AdvancedMC modules are powered by power-supply units which connect to the backplane through a MicroTCA power connector (again with press-fit termination), also available from HARTING.
HARTING also provides application specific design-in support for connector and system analysis, including test boards and test setups, simulation data and models (S-parameter and SPICE), signal-integrity data (S-parameter, TDR, crosstalk and eye-diagram analysis), customer-specific boards and models, and 3D models (STEP and IGES).
