A low VOC, chromate, xylene and toluene free engine coating system from Indestructible Paint is being adopted by Pratt & Whitney, part of United Technologies Corporation, following approval in February 2006. The system’s two components, heat and corrosion resistant 2-pack primer (IP714), and 2-pack aluminium finish (IP715) meet Pratt & Whitney USA specifications PWA 36568 and PWA 36569 respectively for production, overhaul and repair.
Originally approved by Pratt & Whitney Canada about three years ago for production parts in Canada only. The system complies with the Canadian company’s specifications CPW 714 for the primer and CPW 715 for the finish. Indestructible’s IP714/715 system will now replace all the high VOC, xylene and toluene containing paints currently in use at Pratt & Whitney.
As a result of the approval and the work carried out on its behalf, Pratt & Whitney presented Indestructible Paint with its small supplier of the year award. This was received by Dave Colon, President of Indestructible Paint USA, at a ceremony held on 10th April 2006 at the United Technologies research centre, East Hartford Connecticut.
Developed to meet the corrosion, heat resistance and environmental demands of the world’s major aero engine manufacturers, IP714/715 provides the additional benefits of much easier application and superior finish. It also offers the economic advantage of greater coverage resulting in lower costs for the user than competitive products. Now generally available, either of the system’s two parts can be purchased and used separately depending on the users requirements.
