Tyco Electronics has continued its RoHS expertise with the availability of MADISON CABLE lead-free and heavy-metal-free cables. These cables are designed with several national and international environmental initiatives in mind. The initiatives include Proposition 65 in the state of California in the United States, the EU RoHS and WEEE directives taking effect in 2006, and other global laws including China’s proposed hazardous substance legislation, and the Japan Green Program as well as other directives which address lead, heavy metals and other hazardous substances.
MADISON CABLE lead-free and heavy-metal-free cables from Tyco Electronics provide highly efficient interconnections for many applications while complying with most new and proposed environmental regulations. RoHS compliant wire and cable are available for most industries and applications with considerable product selection available for IT, medical, industrial, commercial and video use. OEMs continue to drive new product developments in addition to wire harness subcontractors and installers.
The cables are designed to meet applicable UL and CSA standards as well as any current applicable ANSI standards. Designers can also find appropriate lead-free connectors to attach to the lead-free cables from Tyco Electronics’ AMP brand at: http://catalog.tycoelectronics.com/TE/bin/TE.Menu?M=LEADFREE&LG=1&I=13.
Tyco Electronics uses proprietary polymer compounds for both primary and jacket insulations allowing the cables to be manufactured in both flexible and standard versions. The new polymer technology does not use polybrominated biphenyls (PBB), polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE), cadmium, mercury or hexavalent chromium to achieve desirable stability, flexibility, gloss, hardness or color attributes. Standard base polyethylene and standard base high-temperature colors are RoHS compliant and many standard base PVC and custom PVC colors are compliant.
Specific products in the MADISON CABLE lead-free cable line are SCSI, Fibre Channel, Infiniband, video, as well as multi-conductor, multi-pair, coax, parallel pair, planar and single conductor designs. Additionally, a new oil and water resistant PVC cable with a 105 degree C rating was recently added. Plenum and non-plenum designs are available and all components are identified for ease of termination. Moving forward, all new cable designs requiring UL/CSA approval will be RoHS compliant.
