Brevini Achieves Successful Gearbox Retrofit For Thames Water

Thames Water has replaced venerable Varatio Strateline gearboxes with new Brevini multi-stage planetary units on a series of half-bridge scrapers at its Maidenhead sewage treatment works. The new gearboxes offer increased radial load and torque transmission ratings compared with the Strateline units, and were easily retrofitted to the existing platform without any modification to its structure.A three-stage Brevini reduction gearbox was selected, based on archived information on the Stratelines. To reproduce the mounting arrangement, Brevini UK built a special bracket that bolted to the planetary gearbox and provided the identical bolt hole pattern of the old units. This allowed the original mounting configuration and bridgework to be retained for a speedy, low-cost retrofit.
