The Lenze 8200 vector range of frequency inverters covers a power range 0.55 to 90kW with 3 phase input. Voltage and frequency range are particularly wide at 320 to 550V and 45-65Hz, suiting these inverters for worldwide use. Within the 8200 vector inverters is a PID controller which allows energy savings without the need for external controls. Typical applications are fans in air handling and pumps.
The PID controller is built in to the 8200 vector inverters as standard without extra cost. It compares a variable input signal with a setpoint and outputs a signal proportional to the difference. A typical use would be adjusting a fan speed to maintain an ambient temperature at or close to a setpoint. The temperature signal is input to the inverter and the fan speed is automatically adjusted to match the demand. Similar results can be achieved in pump applications, taking in a pressure or temperature signal. Preset maximum and minimum speeds can be set in the inverter, preventing overspeeds or a pump running dry.
The self-contained control by 8200 vector inverters for applications where the demand load is variable has two particular advantages. Firstly installation costs are reduced as no external controller is necessary. Secondly by reducing fan or pump speed to respond to reduced demand, major savings in energy costs can be achieved. As the energy used is a cube function of speed, often 50% or more can be saved and short pay-back times achieved.
