Improved general purpose small plastic enclosures

Hammond Electronics has introduced enhanced versions of its well-established 1591 family of small enclosures. Designated the 1591XX, the new range is available in seven sizes from 87 x 57 x 36mm to 221 x 150 x 60mm. The new cases are optimised for mounting horizontal PCBs; they have four stand-offs moulded into both the top and the base.

The original 1591 series featured slots in all sides for mounting PCBs vertically, the updated version has plain sides, making connector installation easier. The lids, available as plain or flanged versions, fit to the base using a tongue and groove construction to give protection against dust or water; the enclosure is rated at IP54.

The flanged lids can be used to secure the enclosure to a wall or other surface; they have the additional benefit of providing security against casual disassembly as the lid screws are rendered inaccessible.

The lids are secured using M3 screws running into brass bush inserts in the base, so they are ideal for applications where repeated access to the housed electronics is likely to be required. The cases are available in black or grey, and are moulded in UL94V-0 flame retardant ABS plastic with an attractive satin textured finish.
