Blue Diamond has large stocks of seals for heavy duty rotary and linear
applications, including PTFE lip seals with a narrow band of
fluoroelastomer bonded to the inside of a conventional Viton body. In
operation, tiny amounts of the PTFE material are transferred to the shaft
surface, filling microscopic pits and establishing a perfect lubricant
film for speeds up to 20,000rpm. The company’s high pressure linear
motion seals (to 100bar) may look like ordinary seals, but they have a
stainless steel insert within a nitrile body to hold them in place with
just a tight interference fit.
Surface treatments are also available for O-rings and rotary shaft seals
to ensure low start-up and running friction. These also improve the
ageing properties of the rubber, inhibiting deterioration in storage or
when components are operated spasmodically or remain dormant for long
periods.
