Blue Diamond’s stock of seals now amounts to around 6,000 components in
many variants for applications ranging from heavy construction equipment
to precision machine drives. Products include heavy duty PTFE lip seals
for rotary applications and linear motion hydraulic system seals that can
withstand pressures up to 100bar.
The company’s SSHT non-stick treatment for elastomer O-rings and rotary
shaft seals adds positive sealing without the drawbacks of excessive
friction. The coating induces a molecular change in the skin of the seal
to reduce its stiction. Another surface treatment, dubbed SBBT, bonds an
ultra-thin PTFE coating to the base rubber or plastic to achieve similar
results to the SSHT process. Both treatments are claimed to reduce the
coefficient of friction of rotary shaft seals by as much as 25%.
