HARTING has introduced the B+ type AdvancedMC connector for AdvancedTCA with press-fit technology.
The new connector is designed to meet the mechanical and electrical requirements of PICMG (PCI Industrial Computer Manufacturers Group) AMC.0 but with a press-in interface. The inclusion of the press-in option is scheduled for the next revision of the AMC.0 specification.
This new connector supports the high data transmission rates and low crosstalk required by the AdvancedMC specification. The optimised footprint enables easy routing, while the use of 0.55mm plated PCB holes provides robust and reliable press-fit mounting.
The new press-fit design was optimised to provide significant cost and reliability advantages over other termination technologies. The press-in process allows for the use of a standard 'flat rock' die, requiring nospecial tooling. The connector is also available without pegs for applications in which the AdvancedTCA guiding system is not desired.
The Advanced Mezzanine Card (AdvancedMC) standard developed by the PICMG defines the requirements for a wide range of high-speed mezzanine cards which can be used in AdvancedTCA as well as in MicroTCA systems. In an AdvancedTCA(r) system, AdvancedMC modules can be hot-swapped in and out of carrier boards, which are plugged into a backplane.
MicroTCA(tm) is an industry standard developed by the PCI Industrial Computer Manufacturers Group (PICMG). In a MicroTCA system, AdvancedMC(tm) modules are plugged directly into a backplane and not into a carrier board. As a result, MicroTCA system shelves are smaller and cheaper than AdvancedTCA systems, yet are powerful enough to address the needs of telecom, enterprise and medical applications.
AdvancedMC modules are powered by power-supply units which connect to the backplane through a MicroTCA power connector (press-fit termination), also available from HARTING.
