Invisible Fixings Are Best For Decorative Panel Work

The sunburst sundial adorning the south-facing wall of Bridport's new hospital is fixed to the brickwork using an invisible threaded fastening system that was bonded in position when the sundial was made When Redline Signs of Wells was called upon to construct Michael Harvey's design for a 4m long sunburst sundial, which would eventually grace the south-facing wall of a new hospital in Bridport, Dorset, there was really only one choice of fixture open to them. When we need an invisible fixing, particularly in glass reinforced plastic, says Redline's Leon Roberts, we always turn to BigHead. BigHead fasteners are used extensively by plastics fabricators requiring strong, load-distributing anchorages. The head of each metal fixing is perforated and when it is bonded into plastics, the material flows through the holes and 'keys' it permanently in position. The method avoids having to drill unsightly holes in otherwise blemish-free surfaces, and avoids any additional finishing that conventional point fixings would necessitate.
