The New PowerRod Family Pushes The Actuator Boundaries Further And At Greater Speeds

The latest PRC PowerRod actuator from Micromech delivers the speed of a belt-drive system with the accuracy of a precision screw axis and the clean reliability of a linear motor. This additional range, following the recent launch of the PRA series actuator, has the same familiar form factor, integral position feedback and large air gap that makes installation very simple.

The PRC motor components consist of an IP67 rated forcer and a sealed stainless steel thrust rod enclosing rare-earth magnets. There are four models that deliver a continuous force range of 51 to 102 N with peak forces of 312 up to 780 N. Acceleration is up to 256m/s2 and speeds range up to 8.7m/s. Standard travel is 1,200mm, with specials available to order up to 2,000mm

No external encoder is required as this comes integrally with the position output in the form of industry standard 1V pk-pk sin/cos signals. The load is mounted directly to the forcer, typically supported by a single bearing rail, while the thrust rod is mounted at both ends, similar to a ballscrew. Unlike many other linear motor/actuators this has a large air gap reducing alignment constraints. Furthermore the tubular motor has superior thermal efficiency, radiating heat uniformly and allowing high duty cycles without the need for forced-air or water-cooling.
