HBM's new 24 bit ML38B precision amplifier for the MGCplus system has an accuracy of 0.0025% and excellent long-term stability.
It enables strain gauge transducers to be connected which may be used, for example, in wind tunnel balances, when calibrating material testing machines, or for reference measurements.
The ML38B guarantees maximum interchangeability while its low measurement uncertainty means that any errors arise elsewhere in the measurement chain.
The ML38B features a new polynomial characteristic curve that optimizes the amplifier for use in measurement chains with strain gauge transducers.
The coefficients of the cubic interpolation from the calibration certificate of the measurement chain are entered into the amplifier and the displayed value is then calculated. The ML38B then corrects the repeatable, non-linear properties of the transducer to achieve the best possible adaptation to the true characteristic curve.
Optimum results are achieved when the ML38B is used in conjunction with a TEDS transducer (Transducer Electronic Data Sheet) because the coefficients are electronically stored and permanently assigned to the calibrated transducer.
With a TEDS transducer connected to the ML38B, the amplifier is adjusted automatically and measurement can start immediately. At the same time, the error ratio of amplifiers used with different transducers is substantially reduced.
