All stainless steel disc couplings are good enough for the
nuclear industry
Abssac has supplied a UK nuclear power plant with special disc style
couplings that are entirely made from stainless steel, including the
components' hubs, discs, bolts, nuts and washers. The nuclear facility
had experienced difficulties obtaining couplings to its specification
from other manufacturers, but Abssac took up the challenge to meet the
tight deadline imposed by its client. Using a four-bolt, single flex pack
AR series design, the two shaft hubs are connected together by bolting
the hubs at alternate points through the disc pack sets. This
configuration ensures that the driven torque is transmitted in direct
tensions through the flex packs, while maintaining balance and
parallelism.
