Now available from Allegro MicroSystems Europe is STR-CAD Design Aidsoftware: an easy-to-use design tool which allows users to developcost-effective switch-mode power-supply designs using the STR series of switching-regulator integrated circuits from Sanken Electric Company, Ltd. -Allegro's parent company.
The free downloadable software is available for use with the STR-A6100,STR-A6200 and STR-W6700 Series of switching regulators, and allows the userto choose one of several topology options: pulse-width modulation (PWM),quasi-resonant or pulse-ratio control (PRC).
Users can select from single or multiple output configurations, and thesoftware then quickly guides the user through the process of specifyingpower-supply requirements with default values, automatically calculatingtransformer details and other component parameters.
The STR-CAD Design Aid software also provides simulated operation of thevirtual design created, and allows the user to make adjustments inparameters, interactively or automatically, for further investigation.
The Sanken STR-A6100 Series are PRC topology ICs with fixed off-time andvariable on-time control, and are designed for relatively low output powerswitch-mode power-supply designs in which output power is up to 20 W atuniversal input or 24 W at 230 V AC input.
The Sanken STR-A6200 Series are relatively low output power off-line PWM topology switching regulator ICs which have a jittering function for costreduction of EMI noise-filtering circuits. The STR-W6700 Series includes quasi-resonant topology ICs designed forswitch-mode power supplies, showing lower EMI noise characteristics -especially at more than 2 MHz - than conventional PWM solutions.
Sanken Electric semiconductor devices are available in Europe from AllegroMicroSystems Europe, a Sanken Electric subsidiary company, and via itsnetwork of distributors. The STR-CAD Design Aid software is available free of charge on the AllegroMicroSystems web site.
