3M Launches New General Purpose Structural Acrylic Adhesive - Optimised For Maximum Productivity

Global innovations company 3M has added to its range of structural acrylic adhesives with a new version for applications requiring maximum versatility and productivity. Scotch-Weld DP805 two part, 1:1 mix ratio adhesive offers a three to five minute working life and then builds strength rapidly to give a handling time of only seven minutes. Suitable for a use on a multitude of substrates, including metals, ceramics, wood and most plastics, DP805 is highly viscous and suitable for application to vertical surfaces without sagging. An oil-tolerant formulation means it adheres well to metal surfaces without the need for specialist preparation.

High temperature resistance, good impact strength and durability in demanding environments make DP805 ideal for external applications such as signage as well as difficult industrial environments. While its high shear strength means it is suitable for the toughest general purpose bonding challenges. "Many applications in signage, boat building, construction and general industrial fabrication rely on tough, versatile structural adhesives from the Scotch-Weld EPX adhesives range," says Dr. Chris Howitt, Technical Manager at 3M. "This new acrylic formulation gives an ideal blend of characteristics with a practical working time and quick cure. On metals, it needs very little surface preparation, something that will really drive up productivity."

DP805 joins the range of 15 existing Scotch-Weld EPX two part structural adhesives. The epoxy, acrylic and polyurethane formulations in the range are suitable for the broadest variety of applications. The range includes products that retain their structural integrity at temperatures of up to 175°C (DP760), clear structural adhesives that resist UV light and yellowing (DP610) and formulations specially developed for low surface energy materials such as polypropylene which is typically difficult to bond structurally without the need for special surface preparation (DP8005). Scotch-Weld DP805 adhesive uses the same mix ratio and standard dispensing equipment as the rest of the Scotch-Weld structural acrylic range, making it as easy to use as the rest of the well established product line. The product is available in 50ml cartridges at special introductory prices.
