Forming an even better bond

In order to stay ahead of expectations from its customers, Henkel, makers of Loctite range, has improved six of its existing portfolio of instant adhesives and introduced two new toughened products into the selection. At the same time, it has enhanced the design of all instant adhesive bottles.

‘The new bottle is easy to open with a quarter turn, and has an added safety feature that enables the top to be closed securely with a single click action,’ explains Colin Chapman, Marketing Manager for Henkel, Hemel Hempstead. ‘Furthermore, the new overall design ensures better bottle stability that resists tipping. They are easier to squeeze and, with the provision of improved nozzles, provide better control to regulate the flow of adhesive. All eight products will also benefit from having a longer shelf life than has previously been possible with instant adhesives.’

Universal adhesives 401 (liquid) and 454 (gel consistency) have been reformulated to provide even faster fixture time than the previous products. These are general-purpose adhesives for bonding substrates such as plastics, rubber, paper, card, wood and metals. Loctite 431, a high viscosity product is designed for bonding porous or absorbent materials, as well as metals and plastics.

Low odour, low bloom products 403 (High Viscosity), 408 (Low Viscosity) and 460 (Medium Viscosity) also now provide faster fixture times and improved bond strength. In addition, all three can now be used on porous and acidic surfaces – making them more versatile.

The two new toughened products are Loctite 435 (clear) and Loctite 438 (black). Both offer significant impact resistance, and are especially suitable where high peel strength is required. Alongside fast fixture times, they achieve higher bond strength on metals and plastic than previous products, and are suitable for porous and acidic surfaces. Bonded joints also have good humidity resistance.

‘These moves are part of our ongoing programme of product development. They reflect our commitment to provide customers with the very best products to meet the needs of today’s industrial users,’ says Colin Chapman.
