Steel sensor keeps an eye on things

The new OG series range of M18 photocells from sensor market leader ifm electronic consists completely of high-grade stainless steel. The photocells are thus especially suited for applications in harsh environmental conditions as can be found in conveyor and packaging technology, while offering increased robustness for everyday tasks. Just launched at Hanover 2006, the diffuse reflection sensors with background suppression the range is 10...250 mm, with a potentiometer for setting the sensitivity. The variant with polarisation filter provides ranges between 30 and 4,000 mm, and the through-beam sensor reaches up to 20 m. All sensors use visible red light, which simplifies alignment. This new family, from ifm electronic, will be complemented in short order by even more powerful units packed with more features, yet all in the robust steel housing with the industrially standard M12 connectors. The protection rating of the photocells is IP 65 or IP 67. All sensors can be used on a 10...36 V DC supply. The outputs are protected against short circuit and overload as well as reverse polarity. A yellow LED indicates functions and switching status. The high switching frequency of 1,000 Hz allows reliable detection of fast processes. ifm electronic offers a wide selection of mounting solutions for these sensors that allow easy and secure installation. ifm supplies one of the widest ranges of sensors for position and process control, complemented by a huge selection of connection possibilities, from connecting cable to AS-interface systems. ifm is committed to working closely with its customers to develop products which precisely match their needs, and the company provides expert, readily accessible technical support to help users maximise the benefits they gain from ifm products.
