Improved steel offers 'outstanding' isotropic properties

Ovako has further enhanced the purity of its new IQ (Isotropic Quality) steel, which is suitable for applications that are subjected to high loads and where equalised strength is required in all areas of the component, such as rolling bearings and automotive components. The improved properties also mean that components can be manufactured with lower material thickness, thus achieving a reduction in their weight. According to Ovako, it is the minimal occurrence of sulphur stringers and other non-metallic inclusions that gives the steel its outstanding isotropic properties.
