A Land-Rover Discovery body shell, installed with more than 300 pierce studs and nuts, will highlight the cost-saving and productivity benefits of Profil UK's fastening technology at MACH 2006 next month (NEC, May 15-19). The fastening system offers process advantages over traditional threaded or welded fastening methods for sheet metal applications, and this presentation will focus on the system's ability to install high strength, male or female threads with high accuracy in components up to 4.0mm thick.
Profil's latest NBR stud provides high-strength, water-tight fixings in plain or coated structural panels, with an absolute positional accuracy of +/- 0.2mm. Based on a heavy duty, 14mm diameter x 40mm long unthreaded steel stud, the new fastener enables motor manufacturers to take advantage of the latest robot or 'machine vision' based automated assembly methods.
Other Profil fastening products on show will include examples of pierce nuts and studs in standard and large flange configurations, as well as shouldered, conical, ultra low-profile, high shear, flush fitting and restricted access types. All are available with M6-M12 threads in a variety of materials, for installation in coated or non-coated materials, high tensile, stainless and sandwich steels, aluminium sections and even magnesium castings.
