Micromech delivers second generation PowerRod actuators

Following on from the recently launched PRA series PowerRod actuator range, Micromech can now offer the next generation PRC series, which shares the same form factor, integral position feedback and large air gap of the PRA product group. Delivering the speed of a belt driven system, the accuracy of a screw axis and reliability of a linear motor, the PRC actuator comprises an IP67 rated forcer and a sealed, stainless steel thrust rod enclosing rare earth magnets.

Four models provide continuous forces from 51 to 102N (312 to 780N peak), accelerations of up to 256m/s/s and speeds of up to 8.7m/s. Strokes of up to 1,200mm are available as standard, while 'specials' can be supplied beyond this to 2,000mm. The units are also equipped with their own integral sin/cos encoders.

PRA and PRC actuators can be connected directly to the load via the forcer, typically supported by a single bearing rail. Unlike more conventional linear motor actuators, these devices have a large air gap, which means that alignment is less critical, allowing easier installation. They can also be used on high duty cycle applications without external forced air or liquid cooling, thanks to a uniform heat dissipation from around the tubular construction.
