Drives & Controls 99 - Danfoss Enters Low Power Sector With Compact Vlt

Drives & Controls '99 - Danfoss enters low power sector with compact VLT Here's just a foretaste of what you will able to see at this year's Drives & Controls show, located once more at the Telford Exhibition Centre - and rapidly outgrowing that venue, judging by the size of the exhibitor list. The show runs from 16 to 18 March and there is much to see. Make a date in your diaries! The wraps come off a new low-power (0.37-7.5kW) VLT drive on Danfoss' stand this year. The VLT 2800 is a compact, multi-purpose unit that can be used in a variety of industrial applications, including variable torque applications such as pumps and fans, and constant torque applications such as conveyors and compressors. Despite its compact dimensions, the new VLT packs a good deal of functionality. It has built-in compliance with the 1A RFI standard and, thanks to an integral dc link choke, it does not require any external line reactor. Advanced features include automatic motor tuning and dc bus access, which enables drives to share the load on multiple drive applications. A useful feature, particularly for pump and fan applications, is an integral PID controller. This ensures that the drive delivers full control during closed loop operation and also saves on cabinet space. The new VLT can be operated from a common hand held control panel, or over an RS485 serial link.
