A novel ribbed profile belt is claimed to have major advantages
compared with matched V-belt configurations, offering extended life,
increased torque and operating speeds, and requiring much smaller pulley
wheel sizes
Differing lengths and varying levels of elongation in matched sets of
V-belts will cause unequal distribution of tension and load, leading to
uneven wear and premature failure. Wyko Industrial Services is addressing
this problem with its Conti-V Multirib series of belts, which are strong
enough to replace entire matched sets with a single belt, ensuring
uniform tension and load throughout the drive system. A single stage
transmission ratio of up to 1:40 is possible.
The belts also enable pulley wheel sizes to be reduced, giving machine
designers the freedom to make their power transmission assemblies more
compact, easier to protect and more reliable. The belt's high fatigue
strength under reverse bending - normally encountered in back-tension
roller applications - further extends its operating life. Indeed, reverse
bending stresses with frequencies up to 120Hz can be tolerated and belt
materials allow for both dynamic stress and running speeds as high as
60m/s.
For those applications where drives are subjected to high levels of
stressing and counter flexing, Wyko offers both PL and PM profile belts
with capped tips and load bearing members that can withstand 50% more
stressing than standard versions. The company offers an onsite cutting
service or, alternatively customers can contact a purpose-built
distribution centre, which has every belt width available from stock.
