Springs made to your specifications - 24 hours per day
Recent investment in state-of-the-art spring and wire forming machinery
has boosted William Hughes' custom spring manufacturing capabilities.
These machines can coil and manipulate spring steel wire from 0.2mm to
6mm diameter in three dimensions, to make springs and other complex parts
24 hours per day. At the heavy end, the company can form helical springs
from 7mm diameter chrome silicon wire, or form bends close together in
thick wire. Auxiliary machining operations include piercing, pressing,
nibbling, drilling and both crimp and flat forming, and materials of
construction include phosphor bronze or beryllium copper, mild steel,
classic spring steels and stainless.
A typical compression spring is formed as a coil of constant or variable
pitch, with sides parallel, conical or barrel-shaped. It can have open or
closed ends, which can be ground flat if required. Tension spring coils
can be open or close wound, parallel, conical or barrel, and
pre-tensioned to order. Loop end formats include English centre, German
half extended, necked and swivel. Torsion springs can be open or close
wound. Parallel or conical, and double torsion or drum types are a
William Hughes speciality.
