‘First’ Claimed For Industrial Isdn Module

ISDN is now seen as a real and affordable option for industrial telemetry applications, with call charges now equivalent to those for analogue lines. The format offers data rates up to 64kbit/s and instant connection. Addressing this new potential for industrial communications, Westermo has introduced what it believes is the first of its kind - a DIN rail mounting ISDN modem, fully protected against harsh industrial environments. The ID-90 incorporates both RS232 and RS 485 interfaces, with two- or four-wire connections, plus 20 character SMS messaging facility. The unit can be remotely programmed using AT commands, easing the task of data acquisition from remote sites. It has four alarm inputs that can be used to trigger 20 character SMS paging messages or establish automatic data connections.
